Osteosarcoma is a tumor of bone-producing cells and is most common in school childhood and adolescence. The bone tissue from which it originates is usually the upper parts of long bones, and may be the shoulder blade, upper arm, around the knee and, less frequently, the hip bones. Symptoms such as pain, tenderness, swelling, and fractures disproportionate to the trauma are observed in these bones. Diagnosis is mainly made by biopsy taken after evaluation with CT and MRI. After diagnosis, treatment is mainly provided by a combination of chemotherapy and surgery.
